Split, Stack and Dry!

If you love the special warmth created by a woodstove or wood-burning fireplace, winter is the season of wood envy. That’s the feeling you get when you see a neighbor’s big, beautiful stacks of perfectly seasoned wood.

Wood that has been split, stacked and seasoned properly gives you a fire that lights easily and burns longer, adding to the enjoyment of your fireplace or stove. For a beginners guide to selecting, cutting, splitting and stacking wood take a look at this video from Seven Sparrows Farm.

You’ll learn how to select the best hardwoods, how to cut it to the right length for your stove and fireplace, and the best way to stack it so it will season properly. Of course, you’ll also want to be sure to burn safely.  For pointers on that, see this helpful article from Conshohocken’s Chimney Scientist.

Many new homes from Sal Paone Builders include fireplaces that add to the ambiance of staying in on a cold winter’s day.  Take a look at our gallery for photos of flickering fireplaces and gorgeous interiors!
